"1" = Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate), at this time a meager entrance in a low wall.
"2" = Under den Linden, the famous and beautiful boulevard.
"3" = Palais Prinz Heinrich (Prince Heinrich Palace), built 1748-1753. In 1809 ownership was assumed by the newly founded Berlin University, today the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
"4" = Stadtschloß (Berlin City Palace), residence for Kings of Prussia and German Emperors 1701-1871. Damaged in WWII, it was totally demolished in 1950 and used as a parade ground. Presently there is a campaign to raise money and rebuild the palace.
"5" = The Royal Apothecary (Königliche Hofapotheke), just north of the Palace. Marggraf, among others, trained here 1735-1738 before moving on to Apotheke zum Bären. There is presently no trace remaining.
"6" = Dohm Kirche, supplanted by the Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral) which was built 1895-1905.

"7" = Nicolaikirche (St. Nicolas Church), the oldest church in Berlin, and next to the Zum Bären Apotheke (Bears Pharmacy), where Klaproth discovered uranium.
"8" = Rathaus (City Hall), a landmark while walking along Spandauer Straße from Nicolaikirche to Helige Geist Kirche. (Holy Ghost Church).
"9" = Marienkirche (St. Mary's Church), a prominent church, the second oldest in Berlin, which serves as a landmark for the Heilige Geist Kirche.
"10" = Heilige Geist Kirche, not a prominent landmark and difficult to see in this particular photo. Directly across Spandauer Straße is the Zum weißen Schwan Apotheke (White Swan Apothecary), where Klaproth worked 1771-1780.
"11" = site of previous Apotheke zum Engel on Mohrenstraße, where Klaproth was an assistant 1768-1770. No trace of pharmacy exists.
"12" = Akademiehaus, where the chemical laboratory was built in 1753.
